Lydia's Story

1. Brideau's main point is that in the face of unfair odds hope and determination are the most important things. It is indicated in the last sentence when Brideau says, "it represents the essence of hope and determination in the face of terrible adversity".

2. The primary point of view is in first person although it will switch to a more third person style of view when Brideau analyzes what Lydia has said. This style makes it feel as if you are Brideau being told the story by Lydia, allowing you to become emotionally involved, and also permits Brideau to give a deeper analysis of the theme present in her story so that the reader can understand the significance of hope and determination in our lives.

3. Brideau makes the story come alive by showing how Lydia is not a special case but just an average person that we can relate to. She does this by using simple words and phrases that convey emotions directly such as "terrified of drowning" and "she was in trouble". Brideau also made use of surreal descriptions to make a story grounded in reality feel more fantastic with phrases such as "she was unable to shut the door against the brown rushing water" and "the whole street looked like a river, and water poured in".

4. The audience would be other health care workers. Brideau uses a very sympathetic and persuading tone, most likely to sway the readers to want to help Katrina survivors. This is apparent in lines such as "she had to leave nursing because she cried over her patients' conditions to much". The purpose of this line is to make Lydia seem reletable so the health care workers reading can connect to her plight and feel sympathetic towards all Katrina survivors. The phrase is also included to make Katrina survivors seem like very compassionate people, a character trait most likely valued by those reading a journal about morals in medicine.

Similarities:
Writers are considered more of an occupation where writing is a constant task where art form isn’t as considered while authors tend to focus more on writing about thoughts and emotions while paying attention to literary form. We all agree that an author doesn't need a prestigious publisher.
Differences:

We differ in how we classify blog posts and other minor forms of publication. I also focused less on describing writing itself. They also did not consider as many people authors as I did.

Writers use writing more as a tool
Authors use writing as an art form
Writers aren't as restricted by genre
Authors are somewhat restricted by genre
Writers release writing consistently
Authors can go years without publishing
Writers are more grounded in reality
Authors can write in fiction or non-fiction
Writers write mostly as part of a job or task
Authors write as a hobby or as a job
WRITING STYLE
PROS/CONS
Blog posts
Somewhat tedious. I enjoy the relative freedom
Essays
Very boring, often stressful deadlines and little creativity allowed
Creative Writing
Creative freedom and no deadlines. Seems somewhat pointless though.

Haiku Poem Genre:
Drive me to the store
Bring money; advertise too
Help setup mostly

Type of genre (Text Message):

Hey man, I need help setting the place up. But we have to get food and drinks.

Drinks: Soda, water, beer

The place is at 1234 Main St. USA.

Short Story Genre:

It was the middle of November of 2015. A homeowner was planning a party for him and friends for the holidays. His dilemma though was how to carry out doing the party and getting what was needed. Ah of course, he can contact his best friend. His friend had to drive him to the store in order to get supplies, since the friends’ car was much larger than the homeowners’ sports car. On the way there though a hawk flew into the car and attacked the homeowner and for some unknown reason took his wallet. Since he now didn’t have the money for the supplies the friend had to pick up the bill and ended up lending him some money. The friend took the homeowner home and dropped him off. Alas, the homeowner wasn’t able to set-up everything on his own. He was too short for some things like the putting up party streamers. Reluctantly the friend assisted in the set-up but was also tasked with something else, spreading the word about the party amongst their friends. After the set-up was done the friend then drove to his home and sent out an email, text message and created a short video for the party. Later that night many friends showed up and the party was a success.

"Is Everyone an Author?"

When you ask people what it takes to be an author many might say you need a degree, experience, and a publisher for your works, but I believe the title of author is far more encompassing and abstract. If you were to write a few lines into a blog post discussing your thoughts some might say this is not nearly enough to qualify you as an author yet turn around and claim the writings of Hemingway, where he shares his thoughts as well, that are published through a company are somehow above yours and make him a real author. While true his skill at writing is probably better than you can hope to achieve, in concept he writes the same things as any other person; that is, his thoughts. I believe if you have thoughts to share you are already an author, even if you lack the means to do so currently. Anyone's ideas and emotion are just as valid as another's, just as anyone's writing is legitimate . You don't need an expensive degree, a publisher, to be literate, or even beautiful writing to be an author. All that is necessary is the desire to reveal your thoughts to those around you in whatever way you can. It is in that way that everyone is an author.

Collaborative Writing on Writing

Justin, Rhianna, Clifford, Morgan

Types of Writing:
Personal Journal, Short stories, Creative Writing, Writing for no purpose, Child's Book, Technical Writing.

Persona Shift:
Different word choice when writing towards children. Advanced diction for important writing. Varying degrees of emotion in writings, school assignments less emotional; personal more emotional. Depending on your own emotional state our writing style will change. Depending on the people and the subject you are writing about (for example a football team) we might choose different words and writing styles to better relate to them.
